Modal Logic Investigations in the Semantics of Counts-as
نویسنده
چکیده
The work investigates the logic underlying the representation of the non-regulative component of normative systems, the so-called counts-as. The analytic thesis we hold here is to view counts-as statements as statements which yield classifications and which hold only with respect to a context. These two aspects of the semantics of counts-as -the classificatory flavor, and the contextual characterare then investigated by means of modal logic techniques from a semantics-driven perspective, and a formalization of counts-as statements is thus proposed. The result is then compared in detail with previous work on the topic, and related with work which, despite developed in different areas of applied and philosophical logic, shares interesting technical and theoretical similarities with our proposal.

Suhrawardi's Modal Syllogisms
Suhrawardi’s logic of the Hikmat al-Ishraq is basically modal. So to understand his modal logic one first has to know the non-modal part upon which his modal logic is built. In my previous paper ‘Suhrawardi on Syllogisms’(3) I discussed the former in detail. The present paper is an exposition of his treatment of modal syllogisms. On the basis of some reasonable existential presuppositi...
متن کاملQuestions and dependency in intuitionistic logic
In recent years, the logic of questions and dependencies has been investigated in the closely related frameworks of inquisitive logic and dependence logic. These investigations have assumed classical logic as the background logic of statements, and added formulas expressing questions and dependencies to this classical core. In this paper, we broaden the scope of these investigations by studying...
متن کاملThe Semantics of Modal Predicate Logic II. Modal Individuals Revisited
We continue the investigations begun in [10]. We shall define a semantics that is build on a new notion of frame, called coherence frames. In these frames, objects are transcendental (world–independent), as in the standard constant–domain semantics. This will remove the asymmetry between constants and variables of the counterpart semantics of [10]. We demonstrate the completeness of (general) c...
متن کاملSemantical study of intuitionistic modal logics
We investigate several intuitionistic modal logics (IMLs), mainly from semantical viewpoint. In these decades, in the area of type theory for programming language, various type systems corresponding (via Curry-Howard correspondence) to IMLs have been considered. However, IMLs arising from such a context are not extensively studied before. We try to understand the logical meaning of such IMLs, a...
متن کاملHybrid Completeness
In this paper we discuss two hybrid languages , L(∀) and L(↓), and provide them with complete axiomatizations. Both languages combine features of modal and classical logic. Like modal languages, they contain modal operators and have a Kripke semantics. Unlike modal languages, in these systems it is possible to ‘label’ states by using ∀ and ↓ to bind special state variables . This paper explores...
